My Mabon ritual…..

Merry Meet my friends…I hope that you all had a Blessed Mabon/Autumn Equinox/Ostara and Harvest Moon!  It was a gorgeous night…the Moon?…well She was amazing and beautiful.  Red Orange as She rose in the sky…then lightening in color with an orange aura around Her….then higher She climbed and larger and brighter She shone…it was glorious!  Here in ohio it was HOT and muggy that night but I spent time outside to receive her energy..it was magickal indeed.

About 11:00 I went to my altar.  I had prepared it days earlier.  I now added some wine and some oatmeal cookies for myself and as an offering.  I centered and grounded and felt myself giving my heart, mind and soul over to the magick I was about to be a part of.

The Circle was cast, the Lord and Lady invited in…the elements called on….and I felt myself wrapped in love and peace.  On my altar was a black candle and a white candle.  I lit them ..and spoke the words..of a Balance Spell…to balance my life as the Earth was balancing day and night..as summer turns to Autumn and light turns to dark.  As I raised my voice…I felt the love of my sisters and their voices, from all corners of the Earth, raise with mine.  I felt strong and powerful and the energy and love was amazing.  After the ritual, I drank wine and ate my cookie and lingered in the amazing atmosphere that had been created.  I had never felt anything so strong as that night.  I truly felt my sisters there with me, the Goddess approving and loving what had been created.  When the goose bumps calmed down and I felt like I couldn’t sit quietly anymore….I released the elements, Thanked Goddess and God for helping me in my ritual and took down my circle.

After pacing around a bit, I realized Iwas too pumped up to sleep….so I took another trip outside to do a happy dance under the Harvest Moon!   It was a perfect night in every way!  and then……I got on facebook and expressed my joy along with my sisters and others who were like minded that night!!  Ahhhh  I love being a Witch!

Since then, I have done my best to ensure that I find that balance in my life…I have alot going on in my personal life, but so far, I have not been overwhelmed..I have still found time for my craft, time with my family, time for myself (well a little bit) and keeping up with my home and the mundane things we all have to do everyday!

I shared this for one reason…to show that magick indeed exists, that sisters can share an amazing night together though separate, and that taking the time to really celebrate the Moon and the Sabbats can make a huge difference in your everyday life.  I wish you all joy and happiness and Blessings,

Autumn

Blessed Autumn Equinox and Harvest Moon……….

I just wanted to pop in and wish everyone a very Happy Mabon and Harvest Moon..I’ll be celebrating tomorrow night.  I got my altar done today..I’m really happy with it.  This is the pic of the Moon from my front porch tonight!  Bright and beautiful!!

Here is a picture of my altar….

I love the altar cloth..it couldn’t be more perfect!  I still have to put my cakes and ale out  …..which will be  a nice glass of red wine..to represent the harvesting of the grapes, and some oatmeal cookes to represent the harvesting of grains.   I am doing a balancing spell with my spirit sisters..though we are spread out all over the world..we are going to share a magickal night..I am sooo excited about it!  Then I will do my private Full Moon ritual.  The bad news is that it is going to be 90* tomorrow..way too hot to have a fire..so my fire will be my candles this year.  I also always charge my jewelry, crystals and tools in the Full Moon…and I’ll be smudging the house and making new Blessed Water.  I’m a busy witch for sure!  Mabon is a most lovely Sabbat and a wonderful time of year.

May you all have a beautiful Autumn Equinox and be sure to pull in the amazing energy from the Harvest Moon.  Spend time with your family, take a walk, feast, drink, watch the leaves start to turn, and feel the days start to shorten and the nights start to lengthen.

Blessings to you all,

Autumn

Mabon…an Autumn Festival

Merry Meet my friends…I hope that you are all well and happy!  I am VERY happy as my favorite time of year is here…Autumn!  You may be able to tell by my name that Autumn is my favorite time of year! 🙂  We have had a glimpse of the cooler weather here in Ohio…a few days in the low 70’s and very cool nights.  The windows are open, the critters have started gathering, the Starlings are flocking…the sun is setting earlier and rising later…ahhh…I just love it!  We have been very dry so the grass is pretty brown and the gardens need lots of water and it may affect the Fall color…leaves might not be their most brilliant this year.  I’m seeing pumpkins and mums at the garden centers and the stores are filled with colorful displays of Autumn  and All Hallow’s Eve decorations….it is magick in the making!

Mabon is the Autumn Equinox and the 2nd of the Harvest festivals on the Wheel of the Year.  It divides the day and night equally.   The Druids call this celebration, Mea’n Fo’mhair, and honor the Green Man, the God of the Forest, by offering libations to trees.  Offerings of ciders, wines, herbs, and fertilizer are appropriate at this time.  Wiccans celebrate the aging Goddess as she passes from Mother to Crone, and her consort the God as he prepares for death and re-birth.  At this time we celebrate with bonfires, feasts, harvesting the last of our gardens and herbs,  make and drink wine, make offerings to the God/Goddess and reflect on the coming dark period of the year.  It’s about rest, relaxation, and reflection.  This year, Mabon coincides  with the Harvest moon!  Spells and rituals for Mabon should be about balance, protection, prosperity, introspection and harmony.  These spells should have extra energy for you if performed on the Full Harvest Moon.  I love this Sabbat so much!!

My altar is decorated with a leaf patterned altar cloth, candles of Red, brown, green, rust.  Gaia and the Green Man grace my altar.  I have a vase of autumn flowers, wheat grass and cat tails from my own pond.  I have acorns, apples, small gourds, cluster of grapes, a glass of wine.  I have crystals of citrine, lapis, carnelian and amethyst.  I’m using  patchouli incense and have sage on my altar as well.  I will be doing a spell for Balance this Mabon with my sisters in spirit.  I’ll also smudge my house and I’m working on my “Autumn” cleaning..preparing the house for being closed up for the Winter.  I will make an offering to Mother Earth as always.  If you haven’t already worked on your altar, this may give you some ideas! 🙂  I also make a Mabon Oil blend and anoint my altar and myself with it…I’ll share the recipe with you!

Mabon Oil…….    4 drops Rosemary

                                4 drops Frankincense

                                2 drops Apple

                                1 drop Chamomile

1/8 cup  Almond Oil for Base

Blend in a small capped bottle or spray bottle.  Can of course double the recipe..it smells great!

For dinner we’ll be having roast with potatoes, carrots and squash.  Homemade bread and apple crisp.  A glass of wine or two of course..I will be spending time with the Goddess, enjoying her in Her Full glorious Moon by a fire with my loved ones.  If you don’t do anything else, do this.  The energy you get from just sitting under the Full Moon, relaxing, listening to what She may have to tell you….the feeling is awe inspiring and amazing.  I’m am constantly amazed when I draw Her down.

Had to post this picture  ..I just loved it!

I hope that each of you have a very Blessed Mabon.  May these days of crisp air, colorful crunching leaves, blue skies, blustery winds and need- a- sweater weather…bring you joy and Blessings.  Reflect on all that is good in your life, and also what you can do to be happier, to be more loving, to make a difference in the world and to be the best witch you can be!  LOL..even if you’re not a witch, you can do these things….:)

Blessed Be, Autumn

Blessing Full Moon…….

Merry Meet friends…tonight is a witch’s favorite night…a Full Moon!  This moon is the Blessing Moon..This is a time for divination, dreams, focusing on goals, and expanding spiritual consciousness.  For me, the weather, though hot and humid (UGH)..it should be clear and beautiful to commune with Her tonight.  Last night she was also amazing  as I sat and watched Her, surrounded by clouds but shining between them brightly, low and close.  Her energy is incredible and I know tonight will be even more electric!

My full moon rituals always include re-charging in the moonlight my magickal jewelry, crystals, and athame and wand…I also make new Blessed water about every other full moon.  Tonight I chose to do a Witches Bottle…a protection spell for my home and everyone in it.  I got this spell from Ellen Dugan’s book “Book of Witchery”  which I have and will again recommend ..it’s really a great book!  I’m going to post her spell her..I hope she doesn’t mind….don’t think she will as it’s published! 🙂

Witch’s Protection Bottle

You will be burying this bottle in the ground at your front door.

Gather items needed:

-A Sturdy, clean, wide-mouthed bottle or jar with a tight lid.
-Soil or sand from the area surrounding your home.
-Something sparkly or shining like small tumbled crystals, beads, sea glass

-A rusty bent nail.
-A piece of broken glass
-Dried herbs

*Mint, Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, Thyme
-A new penny or other coin
-Some loose hair from any pets in your home
-A piece of hair from all living in the home

-A magickal spell candle

Find the appropriate spot in your yard to bury the bottle. Work on the night of a
Full Moon at the height of the Full Moon,  or on the Full Moon right before Summer Solstice. Have all your items with you and a shovel. Use salt to purify the space.

Create and open sacred space. Light your working candle while you do your work. Dig the hole in the earth, try to keep the top sod in good shape to replace over the hole. Sprinkle with salt. Ground and Center.   When ready, say these words:

With the Goddess and God working for and through me
according to free will and for the good of all.
I now fill this bottle.
Earth anchors this magick in the ground.
This rusty nail, bent, now repels anything and anyone negative or life-denying.
The sparkling, shiny small pieces of crystals hold the light for me and my deities.
A broken piece of glass to deflect harm to anyone it is intended for.
These herbs infuse the bottle with their living properties;

Mint for money and protection
Parsley for protection
Sage for wisdom and protection
Rosemary for love, healing, and health
Thyme for health, love, and courage.
This new penny manifests abundance in my home.
Hair from my beloved pets to protect them.
Hair from my loved ones who dwell here, to protect and draw away negativity.
This home is divinely protected and effectively safe.
Nothing and no one can enter without my permission
Only those people and beings through whom the Goddess and God work
Can stay here, can visit, can touch this place.
Only Positive Magick lives in this place
In safety, protection, abundance, love, and joy
According to free will and for the good of all!

Start to bury the bottle, and replace the sod you dug up before hand and then say:

I now bury this bottle
It is invisible to all but me
And its magick continues
And so mote it be!

By the time you have finished this spell, the bottle should be buried. Cover with leaves or something appropriate to make it truly invisible. Under the ground, it will continue to work until you choose to remove it. If you leave that area, it is best to dig up the bottle. Then perform this again at your next residence.

In Perfect Love and Perfect Trust!

I also spent a bit of time this morning harvesting more herbs..which are doing fabulous!!  I have found I had much better luck planting them in pots this year than in the ground..

Lughnasadh or Lammas is coming up next week..August 1.  I’m gearing up for it now.  It’s one of my favorite Sabbats as it is the first Harvest festival…and I absolutely love Autumn!  (as you may be able to tell from my name!) 🙂  I will post more info on that later this week.

My family had a rough week this week when my daughter had a miscarriage at 6 weeks of pregnancy.  However, she is doing very well considering.  She is an optimistic, strong girl and is looking to the future, as his her husband and those of us who love them.  They of course, have their darling Lily, who turned 20 months yesterday, to help them thru as well!

May the Goddess shine her moonlight on each of you and bring you joy, peace, comfort and healing.

Blessed Be, Autumn

New Moon, antiques and granola……

Merry Meet again friends..today is the New Moon or dark of the moon.  Use this time to start a new project, change something about yourself, change the way you look at things,  and start anything new in your life.  It’s also a great time to re-consecrate your altar and tools.    Thats what I plan on doing tonight.

My gardens and herbs are looking great, growing fast and smell wonderful!  Except for my purple salvias…:(  a baby groundhog has been visiting and has eaten the flowers off the tops of all of the plants.  The green leaves still are alive and growing but now flower heads…dang critter.  However, it is kind of cute so we’ll deal.  Hubby is going to put some fertilizer to it to help the flowers bloom and we haven’t seen the groundhog for several days now..hopefully it moved on.

This past week, my sister, daughters, grandbaby and I went shopping for antiques at a local antique mall.  We found some amazing things of course and our witchy hearts were very pleased with some of our inexpensive finds.  I found a very large cast iron cauldron with three feet in perfect condition..several inexpensive jars with thick heavy metal lids for storing my herbs, and a beautiful old, leather bound book of poetry from Tennyson, who I love.  The Lady of Shallotte is one of my favorite poems.  Here’s a pic of my finds:

I love antiquing and I often think about where it came from, who used it before me, what was their story.  I find old things to have a soul…they carry the energy of the people who came before me and used them in their everyday lives.

I made my homemade granola this week too.  I’d like to share the recipe with you 🙂

Ingredients

4 cups of quick oats

2 cups of rice krispies cereal

2 cups of nuts (I use 1 cup slivered almonds and one cup pecan pieces)

2 Tb cinnamon

2 cups brown sugar, packed

2/3 cup of butter (the real thing)

1/2 cup honey

2 cups dried fruit (I use 1 cup raisins and 1 cup dried cherries)

Mix oatmeal, cereal, nuts and cinnamon in an extra large mixing bowl.  set aside.  In a medium sauce pan, melt butter and honey and stir in brown sugar.  Heat til butter melted and brown sugar smooth.  Pour over oatmeal mixture and mix well.

Put into a foil lined jelly roll pan and even it out.  Bake at 350* for 10 minutes…give it a stir…bake for 10 more minutes.  Take it out of the oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Pour into a large covered storage bowl, stir in the dried fruit..let it completely cool before covering.  Enjoy!  Great as cereal and on yogurt and ice cream!!  This is not a healthy granola but really really good!

Please continue to pray and send healing to our Mother Earth..until this oil gusher is stopped and the damage is repaired.  Hope you are all enjoying your Summer (or Winter) and making the most of each day.  Find joy in your life everyday and hug your family and friends close.  Being a witch is something I’m very proud of and I strive everyday to honor Mother Earth and God/Goddess.  May you all follow your chosen path everyday with pride and a full heart.

Blessed Be, Autumn

My little nature girl….

The sun has been shining here in Ohio for two days straight..finally!  We even hit 40 degrees with 50 degrees coming for several days.  I’m soooo happy to see the Sun God in his shining golden glory!!  We have had weeks of gray and dreary days and for a few days at least it looks like we’re going to get a taste of Spring.  The huge black ugly snow mounds piled everywhere are starting to melt and we see grass in our yards again.  Today I saw robins, cardinals, squirrels, bluejays and even little Chipmunks out and about today..feeding from our bird feeders.  I have a little raccon that comes out during the day (which is not supposed to happen) to drink from our fish pond and wash his hands and face..so cute.  We have had deer in our yard a few times too recently.  I love watching the wildlife!  Makes me happy.  Spring is coming my friends..just 15 days til the 1st day of Spring or Ostara is here!

My favorite part of the day today has been when my daughter and her daughter, my little Lily, my beautiful grandaughter, came to visit today.  I could tell that she was enjoying being able to walk in instead of being carried and was taking her sweet time doing it.  Her mom who is so patient and gives Lily the freedom to explore had a smile on her face, enjoying Lily’s morning walk too.  When she finally made it in, she had two fistfuls of stones from her walk to our back door.  She made sure to bring them to me and show me what she had.  I of course, made a big deal out of them.  You see, as witches, my daughters and I love stones, crystals, gemstones etc and it’s very pleasing to see our little one following suit.  As she gets older, she will learn the magickal properties of the stones and how they can be used to aid in magick or healing.  How lucky for her to have her mom, Nana, Auntie and Great Aunt to teach her such things.  Sure wish I had that advantage when I was a kid.  I’m so anxious for Spring to come as this year Lily is a walking, talking toddler who will be so much fun to explore with and to watch nature from her eyes.  Can’t wait.

When I was a kid, I loved nature too.  I found myself enchanted with a starry sky and full moon, the smell of autumn and the crisp leaves crunching under my feet, the smell of fresh mown grass, the beauty of flowers, the sound of the ocean, the birds, the crickets and frogs.  I spent most of my waking time outside riding bikes, exploring the woods, playing yard games with the neighborhood kids, laying on a blanket reading a book, sitting on the front steps watching the sun go down.  I was a natural, nature loving witch and didn’t know it!  LOL…I still am but now I understand better why I feel that way.  Being Pagan, Wiccan, Witch, brings me close to the love of the God and Goddess in the form of nature and the beauty of it around us all the time.  God and Goddess have given us simple everyday things to enjoy everyday and to remind us that they are here with us…not above looking down on us..but right beside us! I love that feeling..it brings me great comfort.  All I have to do is sit under a tree and listen to the wind blowing thru the leaves, the birds nesting it, the flowers growing under it and the moon and stars shining on it to know that I’m loved and that I send love back to them.  My grandaughter who feels love everyday from her family, will also feel the love of the Goddess along with God and be my little nature girl!!

Bright Blessings,

Autumn

But I don’t understand…..

I get this alot…from people who ask me about Wicca and being a Witch.  While I haven’t “outed” myself to many people, there are a few who are aware of it just because of the fact that they are in my home  enough to see it.  I’ve explained in previous posts that I have a disabled daughter who requires home nursing care.  There are 5 nurses in my home at various times who help me out.  Because they are here, they see the books I have laying around that I’m reading, hear me talking about a spell I’m doing or a Sabbat I’m celebrating. Though I try to be private about it somewhat, this is my home and I can’t hide my lifestyle or who I am completely.

While 3 of the 5 are totally accepting and even interested in knowing about it or learning about it more, one of them loves at least the crystal/herbal/oil spells and asks me to do them for her (such as passing an entrance exam) the 5th one is a problem.  She is the typical Christian with the preconceived “evil” notions about the word Witch, I can say this because for a while I attended Christian church.   While she insisted she’s not being judgemental, she proceeded to ask impertinent questions she would never ask a person of another religion, and though I patiently tried to answer the questions I felt willing to answer, hedging the ones that were private to me, and explaining things in a way I felt she should understand, her final answer to it all was ….I don’t understand.  Though I suggested she read a book about it (I suggested Simple Wicca for a quick easy read) or she do some research on line at sites such as About.com…she just shook her head and again..I don’t understand.  Infuritating needless to say!!  While I’m not saying all Christians have this attitude, people in general balk at learning the truth about something they don’t understand.  Instead of striving to learn about it before making an opinion, they just regurgitate what they’ve been taught or believe the preconceived notions without thought that they might be wrong about something!  I think that is what is wrong with the religious sect in general.  They all believe that their religion is the “Right” one.

In my search for a spiritual path I could believe in and be comfortable with, I have studied or at least got a basic synopsis of various religions..I know enough to understand where they are coming from.  This should be something people of religion should be willing to do..to learn before forming a negative opinion of another’s path.  There is a commonality between most religions and that is the worship of a higher being..in whatever form they believe.  The relationship we have with that higher being,  God, Goddess, Buddha, Mohammed, The One, The Universe, whatever you call it..is what counts..not how we go about worshipping Him/Her/It.  Religion is manmade, not God Made.  Wiccans believe..Do as you will, and Harm None.  To me this means, let people have their own beliefs, religion, way of life, without judgement or harm to others.  Isn’t that beautiful…God/Goddess put us on this earth for the soul purpose of loving each other, taking care of each other, learning life’s lessons, and loving them.  Thats it…very simple.

As a Witch, I know that I will encounter even worse things than “I Don’t understand” but I think this is the attitude that will bother me the most.  It is very easy to find a way to understand if you WANT to.  I’m not asking anybody to change their religion to mine…but leave me alone to enjoy and live my path without your negative  or judgemental attitude.  I don’t judge you so please do me the same favor.  After all, I worship a Higher Being the same as you..I just do it differently.

Blessed Be,

Autumn

Hello world! Well, this is my first post on my new Blog. I journal regularly to a beautiful leather bound journal but times as they are, I thought it would be fun to keep an online blog too. Today I am looking out at a Winter wonderland! We are in the mist of a huge snow storm though there is a lull right now. We have about 5 inches or so here so far but with the blowing wind, there are places well over a foot! The trees are heavy with snow and its beautiful. I am sitting in my parlor by a nice fire in the fireplace with my daughter Sara enjoying good coffee and listening to music. To do a quick intro, I am a 51 year old grandma, two daughters and a grandaughter. I live in Ohio and I’m a domestic goddess! I also follow the path of Nature, Wicca, and consider myself a Witch and all the good things that entails. I love my chosen path. My daughters follow it also and my grandaughter will be 3rd generation. We value and love Nature, the earth and believe the God and Goddess are all around us. While I love winter, I have to say that Spring is on my mind. I am looking forward to getting my garden up and running. This year I plan on focusing on herbs. I love to cook and I would love to grow and dry and use my own herbs. I bought a beautiful rough granite mortar and pestle for that purpose. We just celebrated Imbolc and are looking forward to Valentines Day too. We try to celebrate all the holidays and the Sabbats and Esbats are important to me. So, I’m off to finish my coffee, have some oatmeal and settle in with a good book. The book I’m reading now is Ellen Dugans “The Book of Witchery”. I highly recommend it..she is one of my favorite witchy authors! So have a good day and Blessed Be.
