Storm moon….

Tonight is the full moon of March ..this year called the Storm Moon.  I unfortunately can’t see the moon as we are under a very cloudy, dark, dismal sky all day today and continuing into the night.  Tomorrow its supposed to clear up and the sun is coming out and its warming up..so I’ll be doing my full moon spellwork tomorrow night, out on my porch.

I like to recharge my crystals and silver jewelry in the light of the full moon.  I also will be making up some Blessed Water.  I bought a beautiful bottle to put it in and can’t wait to use it.  The Storm Moon is perfect for performing cleansing, purification and healing spells too.  So putting your altar ritual tools out in the moonlight will cleanse and purify them until the next full moon.

The best news I have to tell you is that I finally received my beautiful Book of Shadows from Witches Moon.  It took 7 months which seemed like forever but it was well worth the wait!  My book is everything I dreamed it would be and more.  It looks aged, it smells great, the paper and leather are awesome and my triquetra on the binding looks amazing. I have started working on getting my pages I’ve worked on for months in the book, deciding what goes where etc.  It’s going to take a while but I believe my Book will be a a real heirloom to pass down to my grandchildren in time and something I’ll be proud of and cherish.  I’ve also now ordered a smaller version of it for a herb book..hope it doesn’t take 7 months for it to get here!  I ordered one for my daughter Willow also.  She is still waiting for her book of shadows to come..my other daughter Luna, sister Teagan have received their books now too.  Poor Willow, she ordered hers first and its still not here!

Today I got my herbs planted in the little paper pots, made up cute little herb markers and got them in the window where the Sun comes shining in the mornings.  Can’t wait to see how they start sprouting.  I’ll plant them in large patio pots probably around Beltane (May 1).  I planted a few veggies too but mostly herbs.  How wonderful it’ll be to go out and pick my own fresh herbs for cooking and for spellwork.

Well, thats it for now..Have a blessed Full Moon..Autumn

Blessed Ostara….

Just a quick post to say that I had a blessed Ostara and hope that you did too.  I spent the day with my daughters and grandaughter.  We had a nice luncheon and spent time talking about planting our gardens, spring activities etc  We were going to color eggs but my little grandaughter is teething and was tired so she went down for a nap and we decided to wait so that she could be involved with the project.  We will probably dye them for Easter..yes, we do have an Easter brunch with our extended family, my parents and siblings, as my parents don’t know about our witchy path.  They are christain and older and would not be understanding.  My mom knows that we are into herbs and oils and crystals etc but not the full extent of two of her daughters and two of her grandaughters chosen path.  The day may come we can tell them but not yet.  Its hard to hide it but its a must for now.

I did my Ostara ritual on the night of the 22nd as that was the first chance I had to have time at my altar.  I love the calm feeling that comes over me at my altar, lighting candles and incense, worshipping the Lord and Lady, speaking the words that come from my heart.  It is such a wonderful sense of oneness with the earth and sky and it makes me feel whole and happy.  However you worship, do it fully and with love in your heart and really feel what comes back to you.

I have bought little biodegradable pots and soil to plant my herb seeds..can’t wait to see the seeds start to germinate and turn into the wonderful sweet smelling herbs that I’ll use for cooking and spellwork.  I have a sunny window with a window seat and its the perfect spot to start the seeds.  I’ll transplant them to large patio pots around May 1.  If you don’t garden or don’t live where you can, its very easy to get a pot and fill it with herbs…try it!

The next Sabbat is Beltane or May Day on May 1.  It is a true celebration of spring.  I hope to make up some May baskets, have a nice meal, plant some flowers and herbs etc.  I’ll talk more about this closer to the day.

In the meantime, I hope its spring where you live and the sun is shining on you again.

Blessed Be,  Autumn

Snow on the mountains….

So I’ve been at our cabin in Tennessee for a few days.  The weather the first couple of days was not so great..very dreary, cold, misty.  We thought we’d see some redbuds and forsythia blooming like usual this time of year but that was not the case.  Apparantly, Tennessee, like the rest of us, had a very cold, snowy, long winter.  We love seeing the mountains anyway, no matter what the weather.  The Smoky Mountains hold a special place in my heart.  We’ve been coming here for years, several times a year, and I never get tired of seeing them.  They are so mystical and ancient that it just makes my soul soar!

We decided yesterday to drive up the mountain to Newfound Gap.. the 2nd highest peak overlook in the mountains.  We put on our celtic music on the ipod, got something to drink and took off.  My daughter, my sister and I.  To our surprise, part way up we started seeing clumps of snow on the sides of the road, then we saw piles of snow, then we saw snow covered hills and trees, then we saw melting snow rolling off the stone mountains forming huge icicles!  Then it got foggy and the temperature had steadily dropped (about 20 degrees).  We got to the top and I kid you not, it was a winter wonderland in the middle of March in Tennessee!!!  It was so awesome.  It looked like it does in the middle of a blizzard in January.  People were smiling and taking pics, throwing snowballs, even some sledding on the small hills was going on.  It was so magickal that we just kept grinning to each other!  For us it was like we had gone into another dimension!  I’ll never forget it as long as I live.  The Apalachian Trail runs thru there too so we got on it and took pictures.  We had been to this lookout many times before and the view is always breathtaking, but this snow covered moutaintop, on this day (St. Patricks Day) was truly beautiful and unforgettable.  AHHHHHH! 🙂  Mother Earths amazing accomplishments!

Tomorrow we head home but I’m looking forward to seeing my other daughter, grandaughter, my hubby and my cats..I’ve missed them!  Saturday is Ostara…The Spring Equinox.  I’ll be getting together with my daughters and grandaughter to color eggs, have a luncheon and hopefully be outside enjoying the day.  The day and night will be equal and seeing the sun shining longer into the evening is a wonderful thing.  I feel lighter and more energetic already!  I’m busy making plans for my gardening this year…choosing what flowers and herbs I want to plant.  I need to go visit a garden center and get some pots and seeds to start the herbs.  I’d also like to get a composter this year..if I can convince the husband to find a spot in our yard for it!  🙂  We’re also hoping to build a shed this year.  That will help greatly with storage.  I have to be honest and say that I haven’t been into gardening that much in the past years,  mostly just help my husband plant flowers and pots and stop there.  His ideas and mine are two different things on what we want to plant and where! LOL..this year, I’m taking over and planting it the way I want!  Plus I’m adding the herbs…I’m going to get 2-3 very large patio pots and plant them by the back door so I can just pluck what I need when I’m cooking or gather what I need to do my spellwork.  It will be wonderful to have fresh herbs at the ready.  I plan on drying them and keeping them too.  Can’t wait!

Along with gardening this year, I’ve decided to get serious about losing a few pounds and taking up walking..serious walking!  I’ll have to build up my stamina, but I hope to get my butt in gear and move it!!  I even bought a walking/hiking stick at the hiking store down in TN…saw it and had to have it.  I’ve had some health issues in the last couple of years that are better now and the walking will help me to get my strength back in my core muscles.  I got some crystals with holes so I can attach them to my walking stick..for protection, energy, and balance.  That should make my stick even more helpful to me as I walk!

So here’s hoping that you all see snow on the mountain at least once in your life!

Bright Blessings, Autumn

A rainy morning…..

After a week of beautiful sunny weather and warm temperatures..even hit 64 one day….this morning though cooler, mid 40’s, and raining, it feels like Mother Earth is waking up and spring is on the way!  The rain has washed away that last piles of dirty snow and washed the muddy roads, parking lots and driveways.  There is a green glow this morning, tulips are pushing up, the crabapple trees are budding, the grass looks greener etc.  Our bird feeder is experiencing lower volumes meaning they are finding food elsewhere now.  Our goldfish in our pond are awake and swimming.  All good signs of Spring!  While I know we may still have some cold weather and another snow is always possible, all these signs along with Daylight Savings Time today gives my soul a lift that Winter is over.

March 20 is Ostara, the first official day of Spring.  The day and night are equal and then the sun gets stronger and the day gets longer.  I’ve loved the sun coming up early in the morning but will enjoy even more the evening staying lighter longer.  For Ostara, we will be coloring eggs.  The house is decorated as much as I usually do.  I have a kitchen altar, a wreath on the front door, and my Sacred altar are all decorated for Ostara with eggs, bunnies, lambs, and the appropriate crystals etc.  Isn’t it funny how the symbols for Ostara are the same for Easter?  You know of course that’s because the early Christians set it up that way to give the Pagans something from their celebration of Ostara.  Our family will celebrate Easter also..because of our extended family and their beliefs.  My little grandaughter will have her egg hunt probably on Ostara and Easter as all the family wants to participate in that!  It will be adorable!  Can’t wait.

Pagans believe that in Spring, The Goddess and the God become lovers and equals and the Goddess will become pregnant.  This brings forth the abundance of Spring, flowers, trees blooming, birth of baby animals, longer days and food from the earth.  It is a joyous time after the long Winter.  So long walks are in order, being outside and watching and listening to the earth coming alive.  Feel the warm breezes on your face, dance in the rain, plan or plant your garden and herbs, raise your arms in praise to the Goddess and God for the wheel of the year turning once more.  It is a Blessing!

Also a wonderful thing happened this week!  My unbelievably awesome Book of Shadows from Witches Moon finally got here!  I waited 7 months but it was well worth the wait!  I got the Practical Magic book..it has two sections and flips over to open the other side..one section has 300 pages of aged parchment, the other has 200.  The leather is red/brown and very aged and old looking, the inside cover lining  is maroon/black/brown marbled and it has 5 long copper ribbons.  It smells heavenly, like lavendar and rose.  It is the ultimate Book of Shadows and I can’t wait to get my pages I’ve been working on for months, in the book.  I’m thrilled with it!

Bright Blessings,

Autumn

My little nature girl….

The sun has been shining here in Ohio for two days straight..finally!  We even hit 40 degrees with 50 degrees coming for several days.  I’m soooo happy to see the Sun God in his shining golden glory!!  We have had weeks of gray and dreary days and for a few days at least it looks like we’re going to get a taste of Spring.  The huge black ugly snow mounds piled everywhere are starting to melt and we see grass in our yards again.  Today I saw robins, cardinals, squirrels, bluejays and even little Chipmunks out and about today..feeding from our bird feeders.  I have a little raccon that comes out during the day (which is not supposed to happen) to drink from our fish pond and wash his hands and face..so cute.  We have had deer in our yard a few times too recently.  I love watching the wildlife!  Makes me happy.  Spring is coming my friends..just 15 days til the 1st day of Spring or Ostara is here!

My favorite part of the day today has been when my daughter and her daughter, my little Lily, my beautiful grandaughter, came to visit today.  I could tell that she was enjoying being able to walk in instead of being carried and was taking her sweet time doing it.  Her mom who is so patient and gives Lily the freedom to explore had a smile on her face, enjoying Lily’s morning walk too.  When she finally made it in, she had two fistfuls of stones from her walk to our back door.  She made sure to bring them to me and show me what she had.  I of course, made a big deal out of them.  You see, as witches, my daughters and I love stones, crystals, gemstones etc and it’s very pleasing to see our little one following suit.  As she gets older, she will learn the magickal properties of the stones and how they can be used to aid in magick or healing.  How lucky for her to have her mom, Nana, Auntie and Great Aunt to teach her such things.  Sure wish I had that advantage when I was a kid.  I’m so anxious for Spring to come as this year Lily is a walking, talking toddler who will be so much fun to explore with and to watch nature from her eyes.  Can’t wait.

When I was a kid, I loved nature too.  I found myself enchanted with a starry sky and full moon, the smell of autumn and the crisp leaves crunching under my feet, the smell of fresh mown grass, the beauty of flowers, the sound of the ocean, the birds, the crickets and frogs.  I spent most of my waking time outside riding bikes, exploring the woods, playing yard games with the neighborhood kids, laying on a blanket reading a book, sitting on the front steps watching the sun go down.  I was a natural, nature loving witch and didn’t know it!  LOL…I still am but now I understand better why I feel that way.  Being Pagan, Wiccan, Witch, brings me close to the love of the God and Goddess in the form of nature and the beauty of it around us all the time.  God and Goddess have given us simple everyday things to enjoy everyday and to remind us that they are here with us…not above looking down on us..but right beside us! I love that feeling..it brings me great comfort.  All I have to do is sit under a tree and listen to the wind blowing thru the leaves, the birds nesting it, the flowers growing under it and the moon and stars shining on it to know that I’m loved and that I send love back to them.  My grandaughter who feels love everyday from her family, will also feel the love of the Goddess along with God and be my little nature girl!!

Bright Blessings,

Autumn

Goodbye to February…..

As much as I love the winter months, nesting in, the beauty of the snow, the time to reflect and relax a bit, I have to admit that I am more than ready for Spring this year.  We have had an exeptionally snowy and cold winter this year and I am just plain tired of it.  I’m seeing robins in my pond and they are a welcome sight!  I am dreaming of potting my herbs and planting flowers, not needing to wear a coat, opening windows to air out my house, and getting out to take some walks again.  Ahhh…that will be glorious indeed!  I love watching our acres of trees and grass and plants coming alive, turning green..that will be a wonderful day!

Ostara, or the Spring Equinox is coming up on the 20th.  I need to get busy and get my altar set up, decorate for it, and start some spring cleaning…I love that too believe it or not!  I love cleaning out closets, drawers, decluttering, simplifying, and getting in there and getting my hands dirty!  My house looks and smells great after the spring cleaning!  I’m lucky enough to have some help with that in my sister and daughter (hopefully! LOL).  I am also anticipating my grandaughters first egg hunt and egg dying…she is 15 months old now and should enjoy it!!  I can’t wait to see her in her pastel dress with her egg basket!  Because of our extended family (who don’t know about our being Wiccan)  we will celebrate on Easter with them..but for us Ostara is the big day.  Little Lily will get to have both Ostara and Easter!  Lucky girl.

Today is the last day of the Olympics, and I have enjoyed the last two weeks thoroughly!  I’m so proud of the American athletes..what a great job they did.  The most medals for the first time ever in the winter olympics.  Seeing the beauty of Vancouver has also been wonderful!  I would love to go there some day.  I especially loved the speed skating, snowboarding, skiing and figure skating!  While I like the summer olympics, the winter olympics are by far my favorite.

So here’s to spring, Ostara, spring cleaning and the Mother Earth getting ready to wake up and blossom in her Spring beauty!

Blessed Be, Autumn

“Wicked”……

So last night my daughter Luna, sister Teagan my mom and I went to see Wicked on stage…all I can say is it was awesome!!  I love the Broadway shows and have seen several but this show by far was my favorite!  The two main actresses who played Elphaba and GAAAA linda!   were amazing…they sang and acted beautifully and you could see that there was a real friendship between them..not just the one they were acting out.  Something I didn’t expect was how funny it was…it was really hilarious..so joyful to watch.  The crowd’s reactions were so great and a resounding “Approval” by everyone!  Sure wish I could see it again but I think its sold out…darn it.

My daughter Luna has wanted to see it forever and watching her enjoy it made my night..it made me happy to be able to give her that night and that memory.  We will see it again for sure when it comes back or will travel to other cities close by to see it.

The only thing I will say that made the night not “perfect”..was my mother.  She is such a negative, critical person.  All she could do was talk about herself, criticize everyone around her for what they were wearing, or their big belly, or their short skirts or whatever!  I just about could have smacked her..she was somewhat blase about the show too…so frustrating.  Thats the last time I take her to something like that!  I despise negativity and try very hard not to be negative myself.  It is a horrible vibe to have around you and very difficult to shrug off..especially when its my own mother and I can’t  NOT see her!   LOL..She goes to church every sunday and claims to be Christian, but putting down other people for their looks or whatever doesn’t seem very Christian to me. I grew up with her and should be used to it but I keep thinking as she ages she’ll soften but if anything she has gotten worse…oh well, I don’t need to go into all that and I refuse to let her ruin the lovely night at the show!

Today I am working on some pages for my Book of Shadows based on “The Book of Witchery” by Ellen Dugan.  I’ve said it in the past and I highly recommend her book.  Its about the Correspondences for the days of the week and it’s a plethora of information!  I love doing the pages for my Book so its a good day.

Have a good wednesday friends,

Blessed Be,

Autumn

But I don’t understand…..

I get this alot…from people who ask me about Wicca and being a Witch.  While I haven’t “outed” myself to many people, there are a few who are aware of it just because of the fact that they are in my home  enough to see it.  I’ve explained in previous posts that I have a disabled daughter who requires home nursing care.  There are 5 nurses in my home at various times who help me out.  Because they are here, they see the books I have laying around that I’m reading, hear me talking about a spell I’m doing or a Sabbat I’m celebrating. Though I try to be private about it somewhat, this is my home and I can’t hide my lifestyle or who I am completely.

While 3 of the 5 are totally accepting and even interested in knowing about it or learning about it more, one of them loves at least the crystal/herbal/oil spells and asks me to do them for her (such as passing an entrance exam) the 5th one is a problem.  She is the typical Christian with the preconceived “evil” notions about the word Witch, I can say this because for a while I attended Christian church.   While she insisted she’s not being judgemental, she proceeded to ask impertinent questions she would never ask a person of another religion, and though I patiently tried to answer the questions I felt willing to answer, hedging the ones that were private to me, and explaining things in a way I felt she should understand, her final answer to it all was ….I don’t understand.  Though I suggested she read a book about it (I suggested Simple Wicca for a quick easy read) or she do some research on line at sites such as About.com…she just shook her head and again..I don’t understand.  Infuritating needless to say!!  While I’m not saying all Christians have this attitude, people in general balk at learning the truth about something they don’t understand.  Instead of striving to learn about it before making an opinion, they just regurgitate what they’ve been taught or believe the preconceived notions without thought that they might be wrong about something!  I think that is what is wrong with the religious sect in general.  They all believe that their religion is the “Right” one.

In my search for a spiritual path I could believe in and be comfortable with, I have studied or at least got a basic synopsis of various religions..I know enough to understand where they are coming from.  This should be something people of religion should be willing to do..to learn before forming a negative opinion of another’s path.  There is a commonality between most religions and that is the worship of a higher being..in whatever form they believe.  The relationship we have with that higher being,  God, Goddess, Buddha, Mohammed, The One, The Universe, whatever you call it..is what counts..not how we go about worshipping Him/Her/It.  Religion is manmade, not God Made.  Wiccans believe..Do as you will, and Harm None.  To me this means, let people have their own beliefs, religion, way of life, without judgement or harm to others.  Isn’t that beautiful…God/Goddess put us on this earth for the soul purpose of loving each other, taking care of each other, learning life’s lessons, and loving them.  Thats it…very simple.

As a Witch, I know that I will encounter even worse things than “I Don’t understand” but I think this is the attitude that will bother me the most.  It is very easy to find a way to understand if you WANT to.  I’m not asking anybody to change their religion to mine…but leave me alone to enjoy and live my path without your negative  or judgemental attitude.  I don’t judge you so please do me the same favor.  After all, I worship a Higher Being the same as you..I just do it differently.

Blessed Be,

Autumn

On another snowy day….

So Mother Nature is bringing on the snow again here in Ohio!  We have gotten about 15 inches thru the last two storms..this one is to bring another 6-9 inches!  I love the snow and Winter but I think enough is enough!  It IS very beautiful though and it makes me nestle in and work around my house and various projects etc etc.  Maybe it’s HER way of forcing us to focus inward and slow down and enjoy the beauty She’s giving us.

The Olympics have been wonderful and I have trouble tearing myself away from the tv..thank goodness for DVR!  I’m so proud of the American athletes, they are doing us proud for sure!  I love the figure skating and the pairs started last night.  Winning Silver in the Nordic combined for the first time was awesome, Apollo Ohno is so exciting to watch, the moguls were awesome!  Just so wonderful to watch!

I finished Ellen Dugan’s book “The Book of Witchery”.  It was really an awesome book and I learned so much about my craft.  The power that is available to us everyday and the ability to use it to our advantage in our spellwork is amazing.  Today, while I’m snowed in, I’m going to start transferring what I learned to pages for my Book of Shadows…I love working on my pages, finding pics online to put on the pages, working out the style of the page, font, etc..so much fun and so personal to me.  She also has full moon (ESbat) rituals for the days of the week..such as if a Full Moon is on a saturday etc.  I learned alot too about the Gods and Goddesses that represent each day of the week and more about their personalities which made them go much more real to me.

Today I will be doing my Storm Protection spell not to keep the storm away but to keep my power on!  I don’t want to miss a minute of the Olympics!  LOL  I’ll have a fire crackling away soon and I made my famous chili yesterday so I’ll probably have that again..after all, it is usually even better the 2nd day!  I love to cook and need the power to do that too!  I think today I might make my no bake cookies and my mozzarella chicken!  Good comfort food for a cold day.

The next book I’m diving into is “Ostara” by Edain McCoy..as that Sabbat is coming up I want to refresh my knowledge and discover more about the Blessed day.  Ostara is much like the Christian holiday of Easter (it would be since they set it up to mimic it on purpose)..it’s all about Spring, bunnies, eggs, lambs, spring cleaning, and flowers!  I’ll be setting up my Ostara altar soon too and the spring cleaning needs to be started soon too!  I love to do that.  Purging, cleaning, organizing, simplifying the house makes me feel new and refreshed.  I’ll be blogging about my activities along the way, getting ready for Ostara.

Don’t forget if you visit my blog to click on the Social vibe charity box.  It just takes a couple of minutes and doesn’t cost you anything…it’s for the environment, the earth, Mother Nature so it’s the best cause in the world!

Have a happy Monday and Blessed Be,

Autumn

The Olympics…..

Last night I watched the opening ceremony for the Winter Olympics!  Wow!  What a great show the Canadians put on.  The whole Nature theme was right up my alley!  The aboriginals were beautiful in their ceremonial finery.  When they made the Circle and then it widened and turned to the ocean with swimming graceful whales and fish it was so amazing.  My very favorite part was Kd Lang singing “Hallelujiah”  ….it was so smooth and effortless and beautifully melodic it really brought tears to my eyes.  As did seeing our proud young athletes walk into the venue.  My heart went out to the Georgian team too..you could see the pain on their faces from losing their young teamate.  Such a loss but the show went on as it should.  I look forward to being glued to the tv for the next 2 weeks so as not to miss one moment of the games…my DVR will be heartily used!

My poor little Kitty, Harley, has an injury to her left front paw and leg.  I took her to the Vet yesterday..luckily it is just soft tissue injury, nothing broken.  She is on anti-inflammatory meds for 10 days to help her heal.  She is staying quiet and laying on my lap alot (which I love!) and will be ok soon.  I hate when an animal hurts..its not like you can explain to them why and they can’t tell you whats wrong.  Poor baby.  The vet said she may have been stepped on, or jumped off of something wrong, or playing with my other cat, Jasper could have caused it..who knows.  I just know I’m glad she’s ok.  As I am a Witch, I of course did a spell..a healing candle spell..to help her on her way.  I believe fully that a burning candle, anointed with magickal oil and with my hopeful intention placed into it will aid her in healing.  It’s Magick after all!

We ended up with 14 inches of snow over a week and now we are hearing that we may get another 2-4 by tuesday!  Mother Nature is putting on her own show this winter to rival the Olympics!  Go Apollo!!  Sorry, he’s racing now and i love him!!!  OMG!  He almost got 4th…but two Koreans fell and he got the silver..JC the other american got bronze …whoo hoo!  Stunning race!  Ok..back to the snow, while I love winter and love snow, I have to say enough already!  Bring on the spring!  However, I will say too that I love watching the cardinals at the birdfeeder and resting in the snowy trees.  The Goddess blesses me whenever I glimpse it.

I bought yarn today to start a baby blanket in a soft lilac purple and I’m going to put a yellow ruffled edge on it.  That will give me something to do while its snowing.  I’m going to crochet this one instead of knit..its faster and easier and I haven’t crocheted in a long time so it will be a nice change for me.  I love making soft lovely baby items and my grandaughter is definitely partial to knitted blankets over any other!

I am getting very excited about our Book of Shadows arriving any day now..I hope!  I’ve been working on pages for it and will spend some time tomorrow doing more I’m sure.  It will be a blessed day when my sister, daughters and I can all sit down with our glue sticks and spells and information pages and start putting our books together..I can’t wait!!

Wishing everyone a very Happy Valentines Day and my wishes for you are that you are loved by many!

Blessed Be, Autumn
